Music Academy

Fran Smith discusses how, “Involvement in the arts is associated with gains in math, reading, cognitive ability, critical thinking, and verbal skill. Arts learning can also improve motivation, concentration, confidence, and teamwork.”  Fine arts education has been proven to increase the academic achievements, development, civic engagement, and the opportunities of the children that participate in it. These are many of the skills that most nations want to imbibe in their youth.

Our students shine not only in academics but in indoor and outdoor activities as well. They outdo their contemporaries in the field of performing arts and win wide acclaims. Skilled professionals are employed to hone the skills and talents of the students in all types of arts and music. Separate acoustic chambers are allotted in the Music Academy Block for training students in various musical instruments like Keyboard, Drums, Guitar, Veena, Flute, Violin and in other art forms like Drawing, Vocal Music Classical Dance,  and Folk Dance.

The Music Academy has 11 exclusive rooms to train the students in musical instruments viz. Keyboard, Drums, Guitar, Veena, Flute, and Violin. The musical unit comprises 8  keyboards, 4 drums and 6 guitars and training is imparted by Gurus who have completed advanced grade exams in their respective fields.

The students are also specially trained in various instruments to take part in competitions. The students who are very much interested in appearing for grade exams in the Trinity School of Music in Keyboard, Drums & Guitar category, are given special training apart from school hours. The instruments like Flute, Violin & Veena are provided with focused training by qualified teachers who have completed bachelor degree in different fields of music. Nearly 6 flutes, 6 violins, and 3 veenas are provided to students for learning these musical instruments. Drawing, Art & Craft along with Folk Dance are also taught within the co-scholastic curriculum by our Department of Fine Arts.

Salangai Pooja & Bharathanatiyam

The school has been giving training and conducting Salangai Pooja (Anklet adorning) and Arangetram for the Bharathanatiyam students every year. The school has tied up with Kalai Kaviri Fine Arts College, Trichy and is conducting a 3 year Diploma Course for the above said fine arts.

Salangai Pooja is usually done when one has learnt Bharatanatyam for a few years and has attained a good handle on thalam. A dancer is allowed to wear the anklets for dancing only after the Salangai Pooja. An Arangetram is a Bharata Natyam dancer’s first full-length solo performance signifying that he/she is able to present the complete suite of traditional repertoire.

School Band

Music is one of the seven intelligences identified in the brain and the only one that utilizes all seven intelligences simultaneously. Students who participate in music courses exercise more of their brain than in any other course they take in school.  Band reinforces the skills of cooperation and co-ordination which are among the qualities now most highly valued in business and industry, especially in high-tech contexts.

Our School Band focuses on group performances. We have two wings of band comprising Girls – Pipe Band and Boys – Brass Band. The School Band troupe is trained by Retd.Police officers. The Services of our band is often used in all major Govt. functions in the UT of Puducherry.
